With COVID-19 activity in our area steadily increasing over the past weeks, Helias Catholic’s educational team is temporarily increasing mitigation measures. These strategies are intended to prioritize the health and safety of our Crusaders and local community while maintaining in-person instruction for our students.

Helias Catholic will not be in session next Tuesday, Jan. 18, following Monday’s Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. As the number of active COVID-19 cases among our school population has increased notably in recent days, we hope that this four-day break will allow our students, faculty and staff sufficient time outside the school environment to minimize potential exposure to others and to return well rested next Wednesday. Our staff will use the additional day to deep-clean the school facility.

Effective this Thursday, Jan. 13, Helias Catholic will require that all faculty, staff and students wear masks in common areas, during classroom activities that require close interaction, and anywhere social distance of at least 3 feet cannot be maintained. Students are asked to enter school each day wearing their own masks; the school has a limited supply of masks that can be provided to students as needed.

Finally, in an effort to more closely align with updated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations, Helias Catholic will now require that students, faculty and staff who test positive for COVID-19 or are identified as a close contact of a positive COVID-19 case not attend school for at least five full days following the onset of symptoms or, in the case of an asymptomatic individual, five full days following the date of the positive test, with “Day 0″ being the date of onset of symptoms or positive test date for asymptomatic individuals. Individuals in such a situation would be permitted to return to school only if their symptoms have completely resolved and would adhere to strict use of a mask or face covering while in the school building for at least 10 days following the onset of symptoms or positive test.

We will continue to monitor COVID-19 activity within the school and surrounding community and inform you of any further changes. We ask for your continued partnership as we work to stay healthy, in school and learning. Please stay out of school when you are sick or show any potential symptoms of COVID-19, and take preventive measures both inside and outside of school.
