Open wide our hearts

Dear Helias Catholic family,

On the heels of my post last week, I’d like to share a beautiful pastoral letter written in 2018 by the Ad Hoc Committee Against Racism of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. The letter is titled “Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love.”

The document “Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love: A Pastoral Letter Against Racism” was developed by the Committee on Cultural Diversity in the Church of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Click on the image here to read the full letter.

I have shared this pastoral letter with the faculty, staff and administration of Helias Catholic for their prayerful reflection. I also share this pastoral letter with you for your own prayerful reflection and conversation with your family and loved ones. The sin of racism is a reality in our community and in our world. Each one of us, as sisters and brothers, are called by our very nature to combat evil in all its forms. I trust that the bishops’ pastoral letter will touch your heart and soul in a manner that will strengthen your resolve to more fully live out our call to be sisters and brothers of Jesus.

May our compassionate and loving God continue to make Himself known to us so that we in turn may make Him known to all we encounter in our daily life.

Live, Jesus, in our hearts — forever!
