Let perpetual light shine upon her

Dear Helias Catholic family,

Last week was Spring Fever Week at Helias Catholic, and our Student Council planned a week of fun activities and dress-down days all to celebrate our school community. Last week, very unexpectedly, a member of our senior class, Stephanie, passed away. All of us responded to this tragic news in our own way. Our administration, faculty, chaplain, counselors and other support staff were available to meet with any student who wanted time to talk. In the midst of a week focused on fun and games, a harsh reality of life intruded.

A week later all of us in the Helias Catholic community are still processing the sad news. A lovely photo of Stephanie, along with a sweet message and a candle, were present at Saturday evening’s prom. While the music played and students danced and enjoyed each other’s company, others quietly took a moment to look at the photo of Stephanie and pause to think about their friend and classmate.

This morning we will gather as a community to celebrate Mass and to hold our traditional May crowning of Mary. In the midst of our prayers and songs, we will recall Stephanie and ask God to grant her eternal rest and to bless Stephanie’s loved ones with His consolation. Please take a moment today to offer your prayer for the repose of Stephanie’s soul and for her parents to experience the warm embrace of God during these difficult days. Thank you.

Live, Jesus, in our hearts — forever!
