Thank you for supporting our mission as students, alumni and family

Dear Helias Catholic family,

Among the many good things happening in our community this year is the response of our alumni to outreach from their alma mater. Mr. Ron Vossen, Helias Catholic’s first ever director of alumni relations, has been reaching out to alumni across generations to re-engage them with the life of our school. One example of the positive response to this outreach is this coming Thursday evening, when Ron and I will be in Kansas City to meet with alumni from the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. In early November we will travel to St. Louis to gather with alumni from the greater St. Louis metropolitan area. Highlights of our trips will be available in the monthly alumni newsletters. Ron is also reaching out to our very young alumni who are in college, with trips to college campuses in Columbia and Springfield slated for the coming weeks.

I often tell our students they are with us for four years as a student but they are with us for the rest of their lives as an alumnus. The Helias Catholic legacy lives on in the men and women who have walked the halls of our school since its inception in 1956. If you are a graduate of Helias Catholic and have yet to hear from the school, please reach out to Ron Vossen. Thank you to the many alumni who have already reached out to stay engaged with Helias Catholic.

The Foundation for the Benefit of Helias Catholic recently launched its annual fund drive. Thanks to the good work of the foundation staff and this year’s annual fund co-chairs, the foundation hopes to raise $500,000 that will go toward helping Helias Catholic continue to educate young women and young men to strive to be saints and scholars for Christ. The actual cost to educate a student at Helias Catholic is $10,700. As in the past seven years, thanks to our very generous benefactors, Helias Catholic’s tuition has remained at $3,000 to keep a quality Catholic education affordable to as many families as possible. Each individual family that is actively supporting a spirituality of stewardship in their local Catholic parish is receiving a tuition discount of $7,700; families who are not Catholic receive a tuition discount of $5,800. I respectfully ask each Helias Catholic family to prayerfully consider making a gift to the foundation’s annual fund drive. Every dollar makes a difference; every family makes a difference.

The first quarter of the academic year concludes in a matter of days. Renovation work on the school’s front entrance and Rackers Fieldhouse continues on schedule, with anticipated completion in late fall.  On any given day, so many moments of God alive in our community are happening in the classrooms, offices, hallways, cafeteria and the numerous extracurricular activities that take place outside of school hours. We are blessed to partner with the families of our students. We are blessed, too, with the countless ways your generosity supports our Catholic mission. Our prayers and good wishes remain with you and your loved ones.

Live, Jesus, in our hearts — forever!
