Mr. Ron Vossen, a 2017 Inductee to the Helias Foundation Hall of Fame, has dedicated his entire professional career to Helias Catholic High School. During his 38 years he has been a leader among the faculty and staff at Helias and a virtual legend among the students. He has taught mothers and their sons, uncles and their nieces, family, friends and a large portion of the Helias alumni. Most recently he teaches in the Fine Arts, Industrial Arts and Practical Arts categories. His classes include Life Skills, Design and Construction I,II,III Mechanical Drawing and Theater Design.

Every spring with a bit of help from his Theater Design class, Vossen, who is member of a group of talented professionals), helpd develop and execute an amazing theatrical production. It is the Helias Spring Musical and every March it is enjoyed by students, families and friends of Helias and the larger Jefferson City Community.

Vossen graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Missouri – Columbia and earned a Masters degree in School Administration from Lincoln University.

Over the years Vossen has served Helias in roles as Assistant Athletic Director, Assistant Principal, Coach and Director of Campus Ministry.

He says students in his classes will gain life skills and experiences which will help them every day of their life for all of the years ahead. He wants to share with his students examples of skills and knowledge which will be practical and even necessary in their lives as adults.

“Everyone need to know how to balance their checkbook, figure out the dimensions of a room and cook a meal,” said Vossen. “This practical learning makes my students better at making choices, decisions and ultimately living independently some day. We talk a lot about life experiences and how things work.”

In high school, Vossen said he was very active, participating in clubs, sports, student government and even school musicals. He was influenced by so many teachers, he was drawn into the profession of teaching and coaching.

He is a life-long member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Jefferson City and sees God in action in his work here at Helias as well as other organizations in which he is involved including Vitae, Knights of Columbus, Samaritan Center, Peru Missions and his parish.

Vossen has been married to Carol Glover for 36 years. They have four children: Ryan, Nathan, Aaron and Meghan. Two grandchildren, Cale and Parker. He enjoys spending time with his family, volunteering, kayaking and boating, traveling, following the St. Louis Cardinals and Notre Dame Football.
