Annabelle Mullis Keeps Student Council on Track

By: Iris Lu (11)
For junior Annabelle Mullis, being the student council secretary means staying organized and always making sure that everything runs smoothly especially with so many meetings and responsibilities.
“I like being organized, and also I feel like I’m pretty good at being able to tell people what we’re doing and stuff,” Annabelle said. “So I just figured that I could use both of those in the secretary position. I have a Google Drive, and it’s separated for each thing - I just make sure that everything’s in its right place.”
As secretary, Annabelle is responsible for preparing agendas and keeping everyone informed. She makes sure meetings are planned ahead of time and that council members know what is going on. On meeting days, Annabelle helps with opening up new discussions. They usually begin with prayer and attendance then they jump straight into planning school events and activities.
“My main responsibilities are, like, coming up with agendas for every meeting. My job is to send that out to all the council members, so that everyone knows what’s going on. During meetings, we usually get right into planning whatever we’re doing. This last meeting we voted on our themes for prom.”
While the job can be stressful at times, Annabelle works with other officers to keep meetings running on time. Through student council, Annabelle has gained skills that will help her in the future.
“Sometimes it is stressful, you have to try and get everything done, and I definitely think that I’ve learned how to handle situations differently; I feel like I’ve grown better in communication skills.”
Annabelle plans to run as secretary again her senior year. She encourages other students to join. StuCo is a great way to get involved with the school and meet new people.
“I love Student Council, I think it's brought more friendships, and I've got to know a lot more people. Even if you're not an officer member, I think it's fun to just be a part of it. It’s fun to be a part of a school activity and you also get to plan the school activities, so you kind of know more about what's going on. You also get to meet a lot more people, anyone can join.”
